Mathematical model of the HPA-axis focussing the anterior pituitary gland. Outline of an extended mathematical model following the lines of the modeling approach in [10]. The image on the left-hand side provides an overview of the considered molecular mechanisms and feedback controls. In particular, it shows the three different modeled compartments, i.e., the extracellular space, the intracellular space of the pituitary gland cells, and their nucleus compartment. On the right-hand side, the equations of the ODE system are given. Based on the mathematical model from [10], these equations are deduced by introducing the different compartments and in particular two membrane receptors of the pituitary gland cells.
