Phase computation problem for oscillators. The two trajectories xs(t), the periodic solution of the RRE, and xssa(t), a sample path, start at the same point on the limit cycle, but at t = t0 they end up at different points and possibly on different isochrons. The point xssa(t0) has registered a phase shift with respect to xs(t0). According to isochron theory, there is a point x s ( t ^ ) that is on the same isochron as xssa(t0), therefore the two points are in-phase. The time argument t ^ of the point x s ( t ^ ) is the instantaneous phase value of xssa(t0). Phase computation methods aim to calculate this value t ^ .
